We accept cultural diversity. Almost every ethnic group on Guam is represented in the Resource Room. Students who qualify for resource services have varying unique needs. It is incumbent on the teacher to recognize their unique learning styles, temperaments, and other factors which impact their educational program. Students are accepted on their own merits, cultural diversity notwithstanding.
We are navigating into technology. The Resource Room is considered a TECHNOLOGY SUITE. We have an E-RATE GRANT computer which special needs students use on a regular basis.
We are gaining self-confidence. Positive reinforcement is used consistently to motivate students. Verbal praise and a hug are most often used. Accomplishments are noticed and celebrated on a daily basis. Regular classroom teachers notice added confidence in the students after they begin attending the Resource Room.
We are expressing and developing creativity. Students in the Resource Room earn some creative time on the computer. They like to create scenes with Kid Pix and other programs. They can also earn some drawing time with traditional art media.
We are learning academic skills. Skills covered in resource are Content Standard based. They are specific, couched in behavior terms, and based on the present levels of functioning at the time that Individual Education Plan was drafted. All skills taught in resource are written as goals and objectives in the Individual Education Plan.
We are striving for success. Each student is evaluated as to the degree of his success toward accomplishing his goals. This evaluation is reported twice a quarter. In addition, at least once a year an IEP meeting is held on each student. At this time, all accomplishments toward goals are reported and documented. Our students consistently show improvement over time.
